Thousands of full-length titles from dozens of studios under one login. That's the pitch for DVD-based sites, and when the catalog is deep enough, it's a pitch that holds up. These sites license (or produce) content originally made for physical disc distribution — full features, not chopped-up web clips.
The trade-off is age. A huge chunk of DVD back-catalogs tops out at 480p (standard DVD resolution), and no amount of marketing can make that look sharp on a modern display. The better sites have started remastering popular titles in HD and adding newer Blu-ray-quality releases, but the ratio of old-to-new varies wildly.
Honestly, if catalog depth is your thing — decades of studio output, niche sub-genres you forgot existed, performers from every era — DVD sites are hard to beat on raw volume. The per-scene cost is almost nothing when you divide the subscription by the available library. Just don't expect everything to look like it was shot yesterday.
Quantity over pixels.

Classic DVD content is 480p — standard definition. Many sites now include HD remasters and Blu-ray releases for newer titles. We note the SD-to-HD ratio in our reviews because it dramatically affects the real viewing experience.
DVD sites win on sheer volume and studio variety — thousands of full-length titles from multiple producers. Regular sites win on video quality and exclusive new content. If you care more about depth than cutting-edge resolution, DVD sites offer serious value.
Both models exist. Some offer unlimited streaming for a flat monthly fee. Others use a credit or per-title system where you buy or rent individually. A few do hybrid — unlimited streaming with per-title downloads. We break down the model in each review.
